Final Fantasy III
I finally beat Doga and Unei a few days ago and have gotten the last jobs (not including bonus job Onion Knight). Here’s my party as it now stands:
Luneth: Knight to Ninja
Refia: White Mage to Devout
Arc: Black Mage to Magus
Ingus: Monk to Black Belt
I made it as far as the Cloud of Darkness right after defeating Xande, but decided I need to level up more before going on.
Final Fantasy IV
Nothing much to say here. Saved Rosa from certain death by obtaining the sand pearl from antlion.
I’ve taken a break from Final Fantasy III because I’ve been beaten by Doga and Unei more times than I can remember. As a result, I’ve started playing Final Fantasy IV, also on the DS. This game has more advantages over FF III on the DS, but is more frustrating because of the steeper difficulty level.
FF IV makes better use of the dual screens than FF III. Instead of displaying the world map, IV displays the actual dungeon map (!) which is infinitely more useful. During battle scenes, HP/MP and other vital information are shown in the bottom screen, while the battle takes place on the top screen.
A level up window will also pop up on the bottom screen after a battle is finished, assuming that at least one of the characters has leveled up. The window will show before and after stats for everything from HP and MP to intellect and spirit.
One thing that has gotten worse from the original NES and GBA versions is the sound of black magic being casted. It sounds like a guy saying, “bree-ah!” The original sound from the 2D versions of the game is so much less annoying. Check it out:
Perhaps I should have waited a couple months before buying a DS.
Nintendo has released a news statement saying that the Nintendo DSi will be hitting the U.S. in April. The added features appear to be mostly for entertainment purposes and the new system will not be able to play GBA games.
As Joystiq’s Justin McElroy put it: “If you’re in the Cool Kids Club, you’re already a fan of YouTube’s ‘BrentalFloss.’” While brentalfloss is known mostly for his Mega Man and Mario videos, he apparently is also a Final Fantasy fan:
What I think I admire most about this guy is that he seems to truly love video games and has a great ability to come up with lyrics that devoted fans of the Final Fantasy/Mega Man/whatever series would appreciate. Why would a squirrel have money, swords and shields? Did you ever notice that Mega Man really does have a gun for a hand?
I am in the ginormous city/state of Saronia. It took forever to explore all four regions but I found Prince Alus and made my way to the castle, only to get my ass kicked by Gigameth — twice.
Purely by luck, I went back to the southeastern region/town to find that I had totally missed the Dragon Spire. After finding various dragoon equipment, I felt that the game was telling me something … something about dragoons.
As such, Luneth became a dragoon and I beat Gigameth, with a little help from Arc casting Blizzaga. Half my party was wiped out, so no experience points for the fallen. It doesn’t matter much, because now I have the Nautilus and all the closed weapon and magic shops in Saronia are now open.
Joystiq and Kombo have reported that the release of Final Fantasy XIII “may be influenced” by the delay of Dragon Quest IX. That doesn’t sound too promising
Final Fantasy III Updates
Last night:
Restored light to the fire crytsal. Got the Enterprise converted into an airship, thanks to everyone’s favorite airship engineer, Cid.
Today:
Beat Kraken on the second try and restored the water crystal, but not before he/it killed Aria. Now, there’s this whole new world to explore.
I can’t find blizzaga (or firaga or thundaga for that matter), so I’m going to turn Luneth from a warrior to a black mage so he can use blizzara and blizzard, keep Refia as a white mage, keep Arc as a black mage, and turn Ingus from a thief to a monk so he can utilize the claws I found in the cave. Maybe now I’ll be able to beat Gutsco.
Beat Medusa, which was much easier after I had attained fira, thundara and blizzara from the Village of the Ancients and had leveled up around the Castle Argus.
Today:
Made it to the village of Gysahl. Now I know where the term “Gysahl Greens” comes from.
Also beat that Ice Horn-stealing guy, but he ran off to the north.
